Starfish have started their new topic this week, which is ‘Once Upon A Time’. We read the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’, using the Monster Phonic characters to help. After reading the story, we talked about the different vegetables that grow in the ground and looked at potatoes, carrots and parsnips. The children then used these in the mud kitchen outside, creating stews, pies and other delicious dinners!
Tuesday was Pancake Day so it seemed only right to have pancakes for our snack. We talked about what toppings we like to have on our pancakes and if we were going to have pancakes for our tea. For our pancakes, the children used their fine motor skills to spread butter or honey on their pancakes. We ended snack time with happy faces and full tummies!
Throughout the week Starfish have worked collaboratively, including each other in their play and taking turns with the resources. On the long table, we have had puzzles out this week and the children have taken turns to add the next piece of the puzzle. They listened to each other’s ideas and were able to complete all the puzzles working as a team.
