Dolphin Class Weekly Update 19/05/2023

This week in Dolphins, we have continued our focus in topic on rivers. On Monday, we were curious about investigating the different rivers in East Anglia. On Tuesday, we were being creative and building our own rivers in a tray and testing to see how well they would work as rivers by pouring water through them. We had a range of different results, with some working very well having water flow through them and others not working as intended. But all children enjoyed and learnt what makes an effective river.

On Wednesday, we started to investigate the differences between wind pumps and watermills ready for our art projects next week.

Elsewhere in English, Dolphins started their new book ‘The Rhythm of the Rain,’ where we follow Issac and his jar of water around the water cycle. The class created some very creative sentences during the week, leading to producing some very imaginative short writes on Thursday.

In maths, we are using our knowledge of decimals, learnt in the past few weeks, and applying this knowledge to help us when working with money. The children have been very interested when working with money and are very confident with how much each coin and note is worth.

All in all it has been a very productive week with lots of learning happening, which we are sure will continue into the last week before half-term next week.
