Starfish Preschool Weekly Update 09/06/2023

Starfish have had a bear themed week for the first week of this half term, with a focus on the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen.

Whilst listening to the story, the children have loved acting it out and using their imagination to pretend they are going through each setting in the book. We have pretended to swim across the river, watch out for fallen branches in the forest and battle the cold in the snowstorm.

Alongside this, we have had lots of bear themed activities for the children, including ‘Mr Bear’s Postbox’ where the children have been thinking about the colours and shapes of the letters and who they might be for. We have talked about why we might write a letter and who we might write it to.

In phonics, Starfish have begun to look at the ‘s’ and ‘a’ sounds, using the Monster Phonic characters to help. The children have watched videos and played games to help recognise the letters and remember what sounds they make.

The children have also been practising their counting and number recognition skills. In the outside area, the children have been using their number knowledge to take turns on the slide and share the resources in the sandpit.
