Starfish Preschool Weekly Update 19/05/2023

It has been a very busy week in Starfish!

We have been looking at mini beasts and bugs this week as part of our animal topic. On Tuesday we had a visit from Wild Touch who brought in some minibeasts for us to look at. We met giant millipedes, cockroaches, giant snails and beetles. The children were amazing and held and stroked all of them, keen to learn more about the different animals.

We have also had a focus on ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ through the week and have been thinking about the life cycle of a caterpillar to a butterfly. To help the children learn this, Zoë recreated this life cycle through the week by starting the week as a caterpillar, becoming a cocoon on Wednesday before turning into a butterfly on Friday.

‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ has also helped us look at repeating patterns for Maths. We used the caterpillars to look at the different colours and continue the repeating pattern of each caterpillar.

Starfish have also been enjoying the sunshine and have spent lots of time in our outside area and joining the main school on the field. The children were keen to explore the gym equipment and trim trail whilst playing with the older children.

The children have also been practising their name writing skills in class. Working with the adults, they have been thinking about the letters in their name and how to form each one.

All the children have worked super hard this week and the adults are very proud of Starfish! Well done!
