Starfish Weekly Update

16 March 2024

Starfish have been feeling the love this week as we have spent it looking at Valentine’s Day.

At the beginning of the week, the children made a Valentine’s card for someone special. The children used the collaging box to choose different materials and then used scissors and glue to cut and stick these pieces to the front of their card. We talked about what shapes and colours they were using and why they wanted to give the card to their chosen person.

We then talked about what Valentine’s day is and why it is celebrated, talking about how we can show kindness and care for the people we love.

On Monday afternoon, we made jam tarts. The children rolled out the pastry and cut circles out. They then carefully spooned some jam onto the top of the pastry before an adult put them in the oven. They didn’t quite go to plan and became more like jammy biscuits but they were still tasty and we talked about what we need to do next time to make them look more like tarts.

In Phonics, we have now met all the Monster Phonic characters. In the last couple of weeks we have listened to the rest of the Monsters stories and have met Tricky Witch, the Black Cats and the Silent Ghosts. The children have loved finding more out about the different characters and using the toys in their play.
